From Describing the Spill to Drying the Carpet
On the carpetCoffee rings and recurring pet spots
Comes firstThe call starts with the mess and the room, followed by a discussion of the surfaces and cleaning needed.
Call, say what is on the carpet and which rooms are affected, and one of our local carpet cleaning partners takes the request forward. A coffee ring in the living room, a pet spot beside the bed and dirt across a hallway each give the conversation a clear starting point.
Say What Spilled and Where
The useful details are the type of mess, its location and whether it has happened more than once. Describe a sticky drink patch, dry dirt or a smell that returns after a pet accident. If you know the carpet fiber, color or products already tried, share them during the call. You do not need a label, measurement or written list to get help.
Mention a sofa or loose rug if it also needs attention. Upholstery fabric and rug backing need their own checks. A carpet treatment is not automatically suitable for every fabric in the room. Include stairs, a narrow passage or large pieces of furniture in the conversation so access is part of the cleaning plan.
Blot a Fresh Spill While Waiting
Gentle blotting with a clean white cloth can absorb fresh liquid without spreading it through the pile. Lift food solids with a spoon, working carefully rather than rubbing them into the fibers. Keep children and pets away from the damp patch. Leave a returning spot for your technician to assess instead of repeatedly soaking it.
For a dry, dusty lane, avoid adding liquid just to see whether its color changes. Do not apply a home recipe or layer different cleaners over an earlier treatment. Tell your technician what you remember using; the product container is helpful if handy.
Review the Carpet and Agree on the Work
Your technician inspects the carpet, checks the affected areas and tests treatment in an inconspicuous place. The inspection helps separate removable soil from worn pile or a change in the carpet's color. For pet urine, the visible patch may be smaller than the affected material beneath it.
You hear the proposed cleaning scope and its price before work begins. Discuss which furniture will move, which items will stay and which surfaces are included. Ask about any part you want clarified, then decide whether to proceed.
Follow the Cleaning and Drying Directions
Cleaning follows the material checks: loose dirt removal, suitable spot treatment and the selected method for the remaining soil. Your technician explains any marks that remain and the limits of further treatment.
Air movement and indoor conditions affect drying. Follow the room-specific directions about fans, ventilation, walking routes and returning furniture. Open a window when conditions support drying, and keep pets away until the carpet is ready for normal use. For more detail on cleaning methods, see the steam and dry cleaning comparison.
